Which of my Logs contains ......?

It was noted that a user was editing each log (of hundreds), looking through lithologies to find those logs that contained a particular class of mineral. This is a job well suited for Projects and Processing. Here's what you could do.

Set up a Project with one Sub-Project. Using the Assign Logs function, select the logs you wish to search for a rock type. Create one reference point based on the rock type, and include the minimum thickness to be searched for. Then process the selection. Once completed, go to the Assign Logs function and view right hand side of the logs. In the column marked "1?" look for the letter "Y" indicating that at least one lithology in this log contained the rock type of the minimum thickness. Sort this column and remove all the logs that do not contain the reference point. Save the log selections, then return to the Projects menu.

Select Sub-Project//Create Catalog Search File from Logs and save the logs as a catalog search file. You can then use that file to create log strips, create KML files, or edit one or more of those logs using the Catalog Search facility.

The user had about 200 logs to be searched. By setting up this Project to perform the search, he narrowed his target to less than 50 logs in less than 10 minutes. Editing each log individually would take between one and several minutes.

And, once this Project/Sub-Project is set up, you can use or re-use this as a template for other searches, saving even more time.
