Trick: Using the Catalog Search results to find and correct problems

The results from a Catalog Search can be used to create a list that you can sort, then look at to find issues/problems and fix them right there. Here's an example using coordinates.

Using the Catalog Print Search function, choose to print the entire catalog. When presented with the options dialog, select edit/remove logs. This will display a dialog with the logs in sorted order of quadrangle name/state/scale/log id/project. Scrolling this list to the right (see the image below), we see the UTM coordinates displayed. Click the column heading to sort, first is ascending order, then descending order. In this example, the sort has revealed a number of logs whose zone is correct, but the northing indicates the coordinate is in the Southern hemisphere. Also, some of the coordinates have zeroes for the northing or easting, and several UTM zones are in the 40's. Sorting this column again, we find all the logs whose coordinates failed to convert, either on initial entry or through the import processing. These are shown as 0/0/0.

You can select a log, or a group of logs, then click the "Edit Logs" button to be presented with each log, in turn, and you can examine the header, and correct if possible the error.
