CJD Software was formed in 1985 with its primary product C-Master, a borehole data management system.

The original target environment was a CP/M 8080-based (micro-processor) computer with floppies and a small hard drive. Development on this platform was limited by small memory size, small file space availability, and slow displays (CRT monitors, RS-232 data connections). What this did was focus the software to perform well in a “cramped” environment, one that would be respectful of the limited resources available and would still be responsive to the persons using it. While machines have gotten bigger and faster, this philosophy is still in place today.

Since there is a lot of data to be entered for a borehole, great care is taken to provide a fast, reliable method of data entry, real-time checking of intermediate results, and simple command/menu structures. One statement made by many customers is the data entry portion of C-Master is unparalleled, and the log strip creation is superb.

The software has been hosted on CP/M, Seattle DOS, MS-DOS, Digital Equipment PDP/11, VAX mainframes, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8, and now Windows 10. Through all these environments the data files are all 100% upward compatible. The latest 32-bit version has been run on a Dell Netbook (XP, 800×600), desktops, and laptops. The current version will run on XP (and later) versions of Windows.

CJD Software is focused on the customer. This may seem like a platitude, but it is true. During development, whenever a customer discovered an issue, or the customer asked for a globally useful feature to be added, the customer’s input was acted upon. A few C-Master features were specific to a single customer, but have been made available to the general community. CJD Software can provide rapid response to customer needs that fit into the framework of the existing product. New features can require more work, but are not out of the question.
